Description
Over here on Valley Street there is constantly a depressing amount of litter along the road, the sidewalks, in our green areas and even in West Rock Park. What's the deal? Why is this happening, and can we do something about it and clean it up? I know this to be a problem all over New Haven as well.

For most of the year the West River Neighborhood has a team that goes out every Sat. morning and picks up litter. Maybe your neighborhood assoc. could organize a weekly pickup as well. We still have litter but less of it. If all neighbors just pick up in front of their own residence,(tenants as well as homeowners), that would greatly reduce the volume. Gloves and a garbage bag are all the tools you need.
We don't throw our garbage into the middle of our living room so why do people throw their garbage in their outside living space? People have to be taught to respect our environment. There are littering laws. Too bad we can't enforce them.

The thaw brings out more trash from the months of frozen ice and snow. Like parkfriend stated If everyone took 10 minutes a week to clean in front of their house and 20 ft on each side it makes a huge difference.
I personally cleanup as much as I can, but it's a losing battle than needs to be addressed.
License plates if you see people littering- our district manager will address if you report.
