Description

This morning, as I was biking to work eastbound on Jefferson DR SW, a woman driving a light blue Lexus SUV was an extremely aggressive driver. With the snow and ice on the roadway, and parked cars on both side of the street, the safely usuable street space was reduced. Therefore, it was not safe for me to ride on the right side of the street, and there was not enough room for this SUV to pass me. This driver tried to pass me twice at intersections, nearly hitting parked cars after both 7th ST and 4th St. At 3rd St SW, she pulled into the right lane to turn left, putting me in an especially vulnerable position, as I was turning left into the right lane.

I also note that the speed limit on this road is 15 mph and I was cycling at 14mph. Furthermore, I am very familiar with this section of road, and at this time of the morning, the timing of the lights means that any vehicle will hit red lights at all intersections, unless they are traveling faster than 25 mph -- over 10 mph over the speed limit.

This type of driving is unfortunately common on this stretch of road. Some targeted enforcement would be valuable in reinforcing the special and slow nature of this road.

Thank you
