Description
Pedestrians attempting to cross US 1 Baltimore Ave. at Regents Dr./College Ave have to wait an extremely long time for a walk signal. Because of this pedestrians often resort to crossing against the light and taking shelter part way across the road as traffic rushes past at high speed. During the day, this light cycle should be changed to allow pedestrians to cross more often. There is a crossing button but it's unclear if it's hooked up/functional.

SHA considers it a non-issue. Too bad, car traffic is being given priority over pedestrian traffic in a college town. Why is MD so far behind DC and even VA on this issue? I'm considering this issue still open. Here's the response I received from SHA:
Thank you for reporting your concern regarding case number SR-0195277 signal location US 1 @ Campus /Regents Drive .A signal technician checked the pedestrian operation on 4/9/14 and found no problem with the operation . Students are not pushing the pedestrian push button and when they do they aren’t waiting for a walk display . If more information is needed please don’t hesitate contacting me .
Thank you .

If I understand this.... the complaint is that the crosswalk signal takes "too long" to respond after it is pushed.
The response is that it is working yet people do not wait for the signal to change.
That IS the problem. Frustrating..
I would love to know how long it takes for the signal to be affected by the button. Perhaps if you timed it you could ask them to shorten the time? I dunno. But if it a minute or something ... that's a long time to be standing around on the road waiting for a signal.I think it should have an auditory signal so peds know how long to wait. Or a countdown clock. something....
