GRANT ROAD REHAB TO BEGIN THIS MONTH - Beginning March 30, the Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) will begin resurfacing Grant Road between Columbus Boulevard and Santa Rita Avenue. The work is expected to be completed by April 20. While Grant is scheduled to be completely rebuilt as part of the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) plan, that work is still four to seven years away. Concerned that the road is rapidly deteriorating, the City is acting quickly to make needed repairs. TDOT's contractor will use a "hot-in-place" method for resurfacing the road, which minimizes lane closures and saves on costs. The process includes a 100-foot-long train of equipment that removes existing asphalt, mixes it with new materials, and immediately lays the new roadway.
