Still an issue. The City needs to coordinate with the new CalTrans management to clean out under the 880 and repair the fencing to keep the squatters out. These are not homeless. They are young people choosing to live under the freeway which is tax payer state property. Lots of trash around now too which has increased the rat population here.

Still an issue. Is the chain link fence under CalTrans jurisdiction? Or is it technically on City property?
The City & CalTrans need to coordinate with each other to remedy this situation. The monthly cleaning under the 880 in this area only acts as housekeeping service for the vagrants living under the freeway. These are not homeless but young persons choosing to live here. They may be operating a bicycle theft operation b/c there are always numerous bikes and bike parts in their hovel. They have unlicensed dogs under there too. They frequently hang out & panhandle at Broadway & 6th/5th Streets. The City could be doing more to enforce City laws and get these losers to vacate the area.

Still not repaired and vagrants continue to steal Salvation Army drop offs and live under the 880 right at Franklin & 6th. Several vehicle burglaries lately that may be these losers too. CalTrans REALLY needs to get the funding approved to put bars up in this area. Do I need to send a letter to Governor Brown??

Thank you Oakland and CalTrans for putting up the wrought iron fencing! Hopefully this keeps the riff raff out and crime down in this area.
