Thank you for your concerns regarding this intersection. This traffic signal is in place to aid pedestrians across New Scotland Avenue. Therefore the green light you are refering to is for pedestrain use not vehicle use. In the future we plan on adding pedestrain push buttons so the signal will only change when a pedestrain requests by pushing the button. Until that time the signal will operate as it does today

No one is walking across the street at 12:20 am so the signal only serves to hinder travel. Having the light on the same schedule 24/7 is not smart.

This light slows down traffic in this area of New Scotland, which is a racetrack otherwise. Leave it be!

No, it stops traffic on New Scotland. The goal should be to have traffic flow at the fastest safe speed. Needlessly stopping traffic adds wear and tear to a car and decreases fuel economy without necessarily giving any benefit to safety. Currently, a way to avoid red lights is to go ~35-40 mph and that is exactly what people do. Properly timed lights cause traffic to flow only at prescribed speeds. You need to be smarter than the problem to solve it.

You why people run red lights here? Because of unnecessary ones like this!
