Description

The January water-main break on St. Charles Place required the city to dig a sizable hole to repair the break. The hole was filled and blacktop was poured on top. That blacktop was never given adequate time to harden and the traffic moving over it has created a very wide and deep hole. St Charles has a blind curve and there are several children who live on the block.

In addition to the water-main break causing damage to the road it also highlighted the fact that the drainage on St Charles is not adequate. In any heavy rain or thaw condition St Charles floods in the area at the apex of the blind turn. This drainage problem is a hazard to drivers and a hazard to the foundations of the homes at the turn.

The town needs to resurface the street and keep it closed until the material has had a chance to cure. The town should also add curbs to the street, at the very least at the section where the street bends. Too many cars drive too fast on St Charles and a curb would help mitigate the risk of flooding and help prevent vehicles from potentially hitting any homes.
