Description
Police threatened to tow vehicles from Pardee Place this morning at 3 a.m. as they pounded on doors. Could they not wait until 6 or 7 in the morning? One elderly lady came out of her home so frightened and concerned about how she was going to get her car out of the snow and where she was going to put it, that she fell in a snow bank. After everyone moved their vehicles, the plow never even came down the street to remove the snow. A plow slid down Fairfield Street in all of this commotion and totaled a parked car (and was uncooperative when speaking with the owner. What a nightmare for people living on this street. Plows go down other streets three or four times during and after a storm. There needs to be a better plan for this small street and others like it.
If the city would send a small truck down the middle of this one way street within a reasonable period of time after a storm ends, all of aggravation could be avoided.

I have been complaining to the City for the last TWO YEARS about NEW HAVEN HOUSING AUTHORITY PLOWING SNOW BACK INTO THE STREET !! nothing has been done at all.
I guess its ok to clog the streets if you answer to the City- why Mayor Harp keeps ignoring this complaint is beyond me- she asks for cooperation and her own departments can't work with each other!!!
For the issue- would you rather your car was towed ? The fact that they never came to plow just shows the ineffectiveness of this process- the officer's did their jobs and even went an extra mile to help people avoid towing costs and fines. Kudos to them, but shame on PW for not keeping up with their schedule which was directed to the PD to clear the street.

In an effort to better manage current issues we are closing out outdated requests.
Pardee Street is one that we do pay particular attention to as if even one car fails to follow the ban we can not get a plow down the street. Even the small SUV I drive to supervise crews can not get down the street and I have had to back out of the street. Neighbors need to be proactive and create a plan for parking during all snow storms.
As to the housing authority, supervisors now participate in the city's pre-planning snow meetings and their contractors have sat down with the City's Public Space Enforcement Officer to review expectations.
If you see a problem during a storm please report to the Emergency Operations Center at 203-946-8221 or report here under the SNOW category.
