Thank you for requesting shoveling assistance via Snowcrew.org. My name is Joseph Porcelli and I am the founder and volunteer organizer of Snowcrew - our goal is to help you get shoveled out and to help you meet and form bonds with your neighbors!
I know many of you are still waiting to be shoveled out and I want to make sure you understand how snowcrew.org works and its dependencies.
For Snowcrew to work, volunteers need to find out about it and sign up. We are doing our best to get the word out and we are making progress but we have a way to go before we reach critical mass.
By requesting shoveling assistance, you are doing so at your own risk and you are not guaranteed to be shoveled. You chances of being shoveled out depends on the number of people who have volunteered near you, their availability, and the number of requests in your area.
We recommend that you call local churches, gyms, construction companies, VFM and American Legion posts, and the Knights of Columbus to let them know you need help. Doing so has helped others get shoveled out.
We will continue to work to get the word out over the weekend. The good news is over the last week over 500 people have signed up to help!
Snowcrew is NOT a substitute for emergency services. If you are having a medical emergency or feel unsafe you MUST call 911.
If anything changes or your end or you find alternate shoveling assistance, please let us know by posting a comment. By doing so, you will inform those who may be heading over to help you that you are all set and allow our volunteers shovelers and organizers to focus our efforts on others who need help.
Please also keep in mind it may take a couple of days to get dug out and most volunteers are only able to do so in the evening or on the weekend as most work during the day. As a volunteer, during the week, I help out in the early morning, during my lunch break and after work. On the weekends, I have more flexibility.
