Why should UNEMPLOYED people who must visit the unemployment bldg. who MUST park in the VERY EXPENSIVE parking garage have to PAY to be there? Shouldnt they be able to get their tix validated or something? Unemployment doesnt pay too much.▶Open

Get a job. Then not only will you be able to afford to park in the lot, you won't have to! What a concept. And you posted this from your mobile phone, so you can afford the expensive fee for internet on your phone each month but can't pay a couple dollars in parking? Nice.

I totally agree with this complaint. UNEMPLOYED people should be able to have their parking expense validated. The same is true of UNEMPLOYMENT checks - you have to pay TAXES on them as well ... huh? A person who is unemployed has to pay taxes on their unemployment checks? good grief ...
I was thinking the same exact thing when I had to go! I was in tears because i had not had a pay check or umemployment check in 2 months and I had to pay to go to a mandatory meeting! Then I had to pay the hourly rate in the garage next to the buliding. Plusthemeatered spots on the street had broken meaters up and down the road ! What the heck????
Cookie monster -there are mandatory meetings you must attend or if you need to use the job finding services you must go to the building. As for Bree- Safelink is a phone assistance program for the poor and not everyone has a fancy phone with an expensive calling text data plan, plus there are disposable cheep phones for people who cant afford the major companies phones. Please think before you judge.
NJcop81-as mentioned in my first comment..."Plus the metered spots on the street had broken meters up and down the road ! What the heck????" I looked for a meter spot for so long I was late to my meeting and had to reschedule for the next day. I wasn't the only one looking for a meter and I had a discussion on the street with others about this situation being unfair and the amount of non working metered spots. It is also a shame that meter parking is a source of revenue directly for the capital and the parking garage is not. You should be made aware that there is more demand for parking then the metered spots can provide in our states capital. If not I guess you have not been to that area of Trenton as of late.
I think finding alot of broken meters is a good thing. You couldn't park next to a broken meter? If you could, you wouldn't have to pay a thing. They can't fine you for a meter that isn't working.
This is a picture of the broken meter I parked at to go into the Unemployment building so I could tell them I was running late due to not being able to find a spot....I took a picture in case I needed it, now I know why:)
JerseyJim - it is not legal to park at a broken meter due to many factors.
In a nutshell, a parking ticket is fair if the driver failed to pay the posted fee, overstayed the time limit or parked at a prohibited time — if a meter is broken you cannot pay the fee to use it. You can also park there way beyond the time limit. You would also be parking at a prohibited time.
Plus people would break them purposly not to pay....
It is Illegal in most states to park at a broken meter.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
I agree with Jersey Jim, being that I am a Trenton Police Officer, I wouldn't put a parking ticket on a vehicle that was parked at a broken meter. Not only that, we barely have Parking Enforcement in this city, most of whom are tied up writing Street Sweeper Zone violations. Another thing, my daughter is handicapped, so I have the handicapped placard. Not sure if you know this or not, but if you have one of those, you can park on the street in any metered spot for free. Not saying that you have one, but just in case. That could be a quick remedy. Good luck with the parking
NJcop81- Good to know thank you. Being unemployed I would still be worried and I certainly can not afford a ticket. Plus my tendency is to abide by the rules , its my nature. But next time I will consider it. In my comment I also mentioned that the garage was not owned by the state by stating " It is also a shame that meter parking is a source of revenue directly for the capital and the parking garage is not. " Trenton can certainly use the funds the broken meters could be bringing in:) Thank you for working in Trenton, I really appreciate it:)))))
I guess I should start reading the whole post lol. Anyways good luck with everything, hope you find a job soon. Both of my brothers are in the same boat, but I drop them off over there and pick them up
