Call the gas company

I called the gas company and reported this before there is an explosion.
This is another example where a delay in reporting could cause major problems or even a tragedy.
If you are not sure who to call try the police or 911. Then post afterwards and mention you called.

I agree you should have called the Fire department Police and or gas company immediately- This is not the forum for emergency's !!

Something has to be done to educate people on the proper way to use this site before there is a tragedy.
The gas company called me to find more information which I was unable to give because I did not smell it.
If they were able to speak to the person who reported this they would be able to find valuable information such as what side of street was the odor.

The smell of gas, at this location, is still present (1/31/2014)- as it has been for YEARS. I usually notice it, on my morning bicycle commute. There must be a gas leak, somewhere under the street, near the curb. Someone is paying for gas, which is leaking into the atmosphere.

I smelled the gas leak at 600 Orange Street again on Saturday afternoon, 2/1/14. I called SCG on 2/2/14 at 3pm and SCG told me that they have been called about this in the past and they will investigate it again.

The Southern Connecticut Gas Company was contacted again this morning, 2/4/14, regarding this issue. They sent out a crew to inspect this issue this past weekend but will be sending someone out again to take another look today. If you smell gas - ALWAYS CALL 911 as it is an emergency. You can also call the SCG emergency hotline which is open 24/7. 1-800-513-8898. Posting it on this site is fine but you must indicate in the post that you already called and reported it to Emergency Response. Not doing so causes confusion and can jeopardize the safety of the community. Thank you.

A technician followed up with a phone call while at the location and indicated that they were unable to locate any type of gas odor, therefore, this issue is being closed. If anyone would like to re-open this issue because they are still concerned that there may still be a leak, please take the extra step to call SCG at the posted number listed in the previous comment and meet with the technician at the location in question to point out where the odor is coming from. Thank you.

smelled gas again, and, no, I am not having olfactory hallucinations, yesterday @ approximately 5:00pm, on my walk home from work. I poked around, a bit, in the snow, but, as I did not want to appear crazy, I did not get down on my hands and knees, to sniff, but I did notice that the sidewalk is cracked and raised, at this location, though there is no tree present, and there is some snow melt, as if from an underground heat source - just saying, unless there is fracking or a natural hydrocarbon seep @ this location, THERE IS A GAS LEAK.

Several calls, by multiple people, have been made to the gas company, who has said they've been out to search for the leak and continue not to find anything. What more can we do? The gas company can't detect anything, to they just give up???

Keep calling and then post. This can be very dangerous.

I don't know if the gas company has done anything about this, but I haven't smelled gas in quite a while.
