Description
One solution to Wallingford's parking issues is to encourage people to drive less. One way to do that would be to provide bike racks so people can ride into downtown.
If you would like to see this too please respond and tell us where you think the best place would be:
A) Town Hall (45 South Main Street)
B) Simpson Court (50 N Main St)
C) The Train Station (37 Hall Ave)
D) Your suggestion

Does someone have the contact info for Wallingford gov't and/or elected officials, so a "watch area" can be set up on their behalf here?
It would be nice to notify them as soon as issues like this were publicly documented!

Unfortunately the mayor of Wallingford is very webphobic but you can call him here:294-2070.
The other elected officials might be more receptive, their names are available on the town website: http://www.town.wallingford.ct.us/Content/Elected_Officials.asp
Perhaps also contact Public Works as they would probably do the work:
29 Town Farm Road 294-2105 Fax: 294-2107

The Mayor and the Town Council have been made aware of this request; I was at the Town Council meeting a couple of months back when it was brought up and discussed.
Whether anyone will take action on it is anyone's guess.
I would suggest continuing to follow up with them over the winter and press hard in the spring.
I suspect that if you contact Public Works they'll just redirect you to the office of the Mayor

I think anywhere you put them, they'll be used. My teenagers complain all the time about going downtown and not having anywhere to put their bikes.

I agree more racks would be helpful at these locations.
In the meantime are there parking meters that residents can use as places to lock up bikes? In New Haven and Chicago, the city adds stickers that indicate that parking meters may be used as bike racks.

There are no parking meters in downtown Wallingford

My comments from 2009-11-17 are still relative as are Mr. Martin's

Jason.... Let's find a way to make this happen.

It's fairly easy:
#1 - how much is a bike rack?
#2 - we fundraise for it
#3 - we buy it
#4 - put the item on the Council Agenda
#5 - grant the rack to the Town and ask them to install it

I for one am all for that. My day job is non profit development aka fundraising. Shouldn't be too difficult to raise a few hundred dollars for that. Would love to connect offline on this.
