Description

Is there some type of city ordinance that would stop people from throwing snow into the road while shoveling their driveways or sidewalks? As the snow melts during the day and then refreezes after sunset, I have experienced skidding on the road and almost loosing control of my car.

For sure there is an ordinance against anyone throwing snow in the road by hand shovel or with a plow or blower it drives me crazy as well especially as you said when it re freezes the hard bumps as you drive over them can certainly cause you to loose control. My problem is I can never find anyone who works for the city who you can report it to and I won't report to police as they are more interested in who I am and where I live than the problem I am reporting good luck maybe with new alderman something can be worked out to report to them and they can pass it on to the correct people to resolve tgis

All you have to do is make a call to public works and let them know if that doesn't work call the mayors office it will be taken care of as for the police call 735-1885. And tell them the problem

Just know that if someone should get into an accident because of this they will held liable especially if the rest of the road isn't snow covered or icy.You should also report the plow contractors as I see them being the biggest offenders.There was a time back in the 90's that Healey Ford plowed out there lot covering both S/B lanes I called AP they made them clean and threatened a ticket next time

It is called Natures Bulk Pic-up. Similar to leaving items out curbside for the city to pick up on a given day (or the State DOT if living on a highway) and watching your TAX Dollars going to work this will always remain a mystery for many but a paid benefit for all. Go Around, slow down or do not head out to Spring as you Telecommute from home.

Most town ordinances empower the Public Works Dept to issue these kinds of citations but not sure in Ansonia. You have to check the Charter & Ordinances of the City. The PD may have the Authority.

I know your theme is (and you have a point) "report it to the proper authority". However, most people in a city have NO IDEA who the right person to call is, their number or e-mail, etc.

Is there a page on Ansonia's web site that details who to call for what? I didn't see one and I know it would be a great help. Really simple. "Have a problem involving A,B or C? Then click here to e-mail or call" "An issue with X, Y and Z? Then please contact..."

Kenny, no need. That is what THIS site is for. I would also love to see a "Contact Us" link on Ansonia's web site so people can quickly send comments and report problems. Good grief, in 2014 you're asking people to take time out of their day, call City hall, get the Mayor's office, explain the problem, get transferred around until they get the right person. People have lives. There needs to be a fast online way to deal with these things.

Sarah, taking time out of your day is exactly what were here in city hall are asking for, sorry if you have had past bad expericences with the old administration but if it goes un-reported then we will never know... Please I encourage anyone with any complaints to contact their ward alderman, or the mayor directly and the problem will be immediately addressed.... Thanks ken

Do you realize how many people live in Ansonia who were NOT born and raised in the Valley. They don't even know WHAT a "ward alderman" is or what "ward" they may be in.

Where is this information? Remember, "wards" are not typical of every city and town in Connecticut. A map online showing the city broken down by these wards with easy contact information for each one is ESSENTIAL for information to flow properly.
