The pothole is even worse. The rumor is that the developer has gone out of business/shut his doors. Evidently this is not a state, county or city road. What the heck can we do ???
If it's a private road and there is no HOA, y'all have to patch it yourself. Grab some cold patch from Home Depot or Lowes. It's pretty cheap -- couple bucks for a large bag. And just fill up the hole and tamp it down with a shovel or something.
Thank you to Greg Sheremeta! A couple of questions for you (and all). South Ridge Drive is THE major road into a very large development. There is an out-of-the-way back route, but this pot hole is driven over, and around, over 100 times/day. Without risking a legal problem - how do I protect the patch while its drying - and protect the cars driving over it. Even at 3am there are still a number of cars using this road.
Also, should I scrape up the gravel/rocks/etc. and mix it in with the patch? Hou about small pieces of pasture fence (say 1' x 1')?
The process, (probably - via others) is the county will annex the road, then tax the homeowners out the wazoo. The home owners (if all contributed) would all save thousands each, if they would be willing to contribute and find a contractor ourselves. While we were putting in the first 8 bags of cold patch, dozens of cars (homeowners) drove by and actually looked away, rather that offering help or $. Sad state of the world, and this little pocket.

I would probably just put an orange cone on it, or nothing at all. Cold patch sticks pretty quickly. I don't think it will come off on car tires.
I would contact the county and ask them what happens when a private road's owner goes under. There must be a process for the county annexing the road.
Good luck :)
