This response is from City of Rio Rancho administration.
Please be advised at their October 27, 2010, meeting, the Rio Rancho Governing Body approved an ordinance amendment to city’s traffic regulations related to the parking of mobile speed monitoring units. Specifically, the city’s mobile units can be parked on roadways, sidewalks, bicycle and other pathways and are not in violation of city parking ordinances.
To view a copy of the ordinance amendment, please visit the city’s Web site, http://www.ci.rio-rancho.nm.us, click on the “Watch City Meetings” link on the right side of the main home page, and then click on the agenda link for the October 27, 2010, meeting.
The city did not deploy its two mobile speed units in warning mode only until November 30, 2010. Since Dec. 31, 2010, the two unmanned mobile units have been fully operational and deployed throughout the city. Through Feb. 24, 2011, 885 citations have been captured by the two mobile units, and following Rio Rancho Police Department review, issued to motorists traveling 11 mph above the posted speed limit or 5 mph above the posted speed limit in a school zone.
To report future issues to the City of Rio Rancho directly, please visit the city’s Web site at http://www.ci.rio-rancho.nm.us and click on the “Citizen Question Forms” link located on the left side of the main home page.
