Description

The following roads in the city and bordering the City of Saratoga Springs desperately need sidewalks so that pedestrians, bicyclists and runners can travel along these roads safely. There are limited or no sidewalks along the following streets from West Ave. heading Westward toward Greenfield: Grand Ave., Washington St. (Rte. 29 West), and Church St. (Rte. 9N). On a daily basis I see many people traveling at least one of not more of these routes and they are not safe because they either have to walk on lawns or road shoulders which are very narrow in many places. There is very little to no street lighting in these areas to help those on foot or bicycle be seen by automobile drivers. Just because most people have a car does not mean everyone does. Some people like to walk/bicycle while some have no choice but to walk/bicycle as a method of travel. The last thing we need is someone to get killed like the bicyclist over the summer of 2013 who was killed on Rte. 29 East/ Lake Ave. or the pedestrian killed on 11/30/13 who was walking in broad daylight along Rte. 29 in Milton. There are no excuses for not providing safe methods of travel for people who do not drive.
