We need an indoor pool thats more kids friendly. The ones in sasktoon start out shallow enough that even the smallest kids can walk around and then gradually get deeper. There are also big kid areas with slides and water fountains. The pools here start out above my kids heads and just get deeper so i dont even bother taking them swimming,

Has anyone been to the Shaw Centre in Saskatoon? Wow is the word.

It has one Olympic sized pool with lane swimming and diving boards. It has an adult hot tub and a family hot tub. It has a family swimming pool, water slide, and "current-simulated" type area for kids to play in.

I don't even know what they have for activities, gyms and the such, but the place is amazing. I know we don't have the population to purchase such a building, but a pool is necessary. I heard it is in the works, but they need to get on it. People will initially be mad because of the cost, but membership would improve greatly.

In addition to the above, we should see the Coke machines replaced with juices. It's pretty sad to build a centre to promote health and see junk food, soft drinks and coffee. We should have access to healthy beverages and snacks if anything is to be sold for consumption. Tim Horton's meets the needs of the coffee drinkers, this centre was suppose to be geared to improving health.

here is a suggestion .lower the cost for pa resident to use this placve and double the cost for non residents to use this place lets see who really wanted the soccer centre and use it

Sask In-motion promotes no pop etc. machines in schools and sport facilities. We are a IN MOTION city.Food should always be a healthy choice in this type of facility. With the junk food sold in machines at a hidden distance.
I agree there should a pool. But I think it should be done for all. I they followed Regina by example Not Saskatoon they would be doing a great job.(Shaw Center not the best).

You will never see anything but coke products in a city facility. That's the deal you get when you donate a milion $ to the rink.

Let's remember that everything must be paid for by the taxpayer, and in the opinion of MANY, this fieldhouse has already cost the taxpayer too much. If improvements need to be made, let those who USE it PAY for it!

In response to K H, if there is bottled water also offered in the Coke machine that means that the poeple using the machine have a choice, they can choose what is healthy. Let me remind everyone that juices have just as many calories and sometimes more than pop and sports drinks are much higher in sodium. For someone who is educated there is no difference. it is all junk food, just wrapped up in a different lable. The same goes for energy bars, they are a meal replacement, some of them have up to 500 calories each.
Education is the key, be an example to all and bring your own snacks. Teach your kids to stay away from the machines.
PS if you were a diabetic working out and suddenly, for no reason experienced an extreme sugar low, you would be thankful for the fact that there was a coke or a chocolate bar handy to grab and get your sugar back up!!

In reply to KH. Actually I found the Shaw Center to be great. They had almost everything I could ask for.

Please advise what part of the Shaw Center is flawed. I really wish we used it as a model.

Also, jbstallock is right about the types of products and their actual value as a healthy replacement. Coke does make healthy alternatives such as bottled water so I assume there will be some in there soon.

I may be wrong but sports drinks are higher in Electrolytes and that is why they are higher in sodium.

You complain too much in regards to the field house. Our city deserves a place that is safe to do activities, etc. We must remember a healthy city is a prosperous city.

There is a difference between complaining and suggesting.

These are suggestions for improving. As I have already mentioned I planned on supporting the fieldhouse.

Since posting this I have purchased a pass and I am supporting our city. All I am doing is providing suggestions to GROW the member base, an important part in creating the healthy city you speak of.
