Description
The new bike lanes on Piedmont Ave look great, but of course there are already hordes of cars and trucks parking in them. This particular truck was double parked in a red zone while both blocking the bike lane and obscuring the crosswalk, and this woman shown in the picture was nearly creamed by the white van driver who had no idea she was there.
Since these bike lanes and crosswalks are new and fresh I would request that the City of Oakland do some significant parking enforcement along all of Piedmont Ave to crack down on any drivers found stopping, waiting, or parking in bike lanes or along red curbs. It is important to send a message that these spaces are for bikes only, and not parking/waiting/loading zones.
