Description
Every school day morning (7:30-8:00), NHC Sheriff directs cars into and out of Codington School. All northbound Carolina Beach Rd traffic is stopped to do this and traffic regularly backs up to Silva Terra Dr around 7:50. I understand directing cars onto school property (getting the kids TO school) because the southbound left turns fill up quickly and back out into the southbound lane. But, once the 'To' school traffic has subsided, is it necessary to continue stopping all Carolina Beach traffic for exiting cars? Seems like it could encourage more bus ridership if the exiting cars are not given such high priority...it is a U.S. highway and there are many more vehicles on Carolina Beach Rd trying to get to work at this time. Maybe the school could start 30 min earlier and this would not be as much of an issue?

I stress: Once the 'To' school traffic has subsided, is it necessary to continue stopping all Carolina Beach traffic for exiting cars?
Let's get the kids TO school, but after the incoming surge ends, the parents should be on their own to leave. Traffic congestion on the road (US 421) is a hazard. Traffic congestion on the school property is not. Why is the school/Sherriff creating a hazard on the road just to let the last few parents leave?
Maybe the school could start 30 min earlier and this would not be as much of an issue?

also, website says school starts at 7:45. Shouldn't the kids already be at school at 7:45? That is the busiest time for arriving parents. Are all those kids being written up for being late? Or is it just ok 'since traffic is such a problem out there'? Shouldn't the parents be dropping their kids off BEFORE 7:45? Shouldn't the school be doing something to resolve the issue? After all, they are creating the issue on the highway.
If the sherriff left at 7:45 (no matter what), the parents would understand they need to get there before then to get help onto the school property. Also, parents have to understand that if they all show up at once...there's not enough room on the school property! Expect drop off delays and issues.
Best thing a parent could do is allow their child to ride the bus. The next best thing is to arrive BEFORE 7:30 to beat the rush...in and out in less than 2 minutes.
