People should leash their dogs at all times during walks and supervise when they are in their own yard . Cats should be kept indoors. There are no services to relocate or trap Coyotes. DEEP Officers will respond if a coyote has shown signs of being threat to people by being aggressive or overly friendly (which poses a threat). There are no rehablilitative or relocation services for Coyotes. Coyotes live throughòut the city and rarely will approach people . I believe what you have seen is a fox. I have seen the fox several times, the most recent was on Sunday at around 8pm on the second block if Howard Avenue.

Definitely a coyote, it looked more like a skinny German Shepard and was big and dark...not orange or grey.

I will guarantee you these are coyotes. We live off Forest Road in West Haven and there are 3 (see pix) that live behind us and our property goes all the way to the Boulevard. They will surround your pets but will not attack a human as long as you scare them away. They are hungry.....The photo was taken in June so the fur is more brown now....but he was in my back yard more than once.

Is it illegal to live trap them and relocate them to the wilderness? I am concerned that this one might be trapped within the fenced in condominium complex...or maybe it comes and goes...or hides somewhere in the daytime.

I would say everyone who is concerned should make the time and effort to study everything about these animals online and try to find someone local who knows more about them. Especially someone who has been humanely trapping and relocating them. While I don't advocate anyone who has not studied their behavior extensively attempting to trap them, I believe it can be done quite safely with minimal risk to both humans and the animal with the right people, equipment, and knowledge. I'm in Ansonia and have been working with animals, both domesticated and wild, for many years, although I have never trapped and relocated a coyote. I agree with momma I was just driving last night and the Coyotes ran in front of my car an down Forest Rd near west haven the Coyotes were extremely big an snarling at the person who was riding the bike.. Be very careful this was about 8:00 last night so their around..
