Its a serious shame that the stripped down Parks Dept has to clean this kind of mess up on a daily basis. I wonder when the last time someone got caught and fined for doing this kind of roadside dumping?

We are working with NHPD to try and solve some of the illegal dumping issues but we can't do it alone. We need the community's help to report and solve these incidents. If you have further information (car license, color of car,description of person or people doing the dumping) please call the Non Emergency Number 203-946-6316. Since this incident was in the Park area, we will work with Parks to clean it up but we also keep track of location and frequency for police reference. Thanks. I hate to see you have to waste your time and energy cleaning up after these slobs. Have you or the NHPD considered using some sort of camouflaged field cameras like you would use to track wildlife? Obviously the dumping seems to happen "after hours." Speaking of which, I don't know how the bed/futon got dumped off the big switchback on the auto road to the East Rock summit, though. Isn't the gate locked after hours? Thanks for idea about cameras. We are just beginning to try and work on tracking illegal dumping issues and finding patterns across the city. Difficult to tell when it happened but making people aware and encouraging community to share information is a beginning. Thanks.

Yeah sure. If I can be of any further assistance please let me know. If you want a civilian at the table on this issue, I'd be happy to take part. It's really frustrating to see all the dumping and littering (throwing diapers and fast food trash out your car window, really?) going on in such a beautiful park. I spend alot of time in East Rock Park and this disrespect has become a real pet peeve of mine. We could probably come up with a list of the half-dozen "most popular" dumping locations - that would be a good place to start experimenting with any sort of camera or other creative sting operation...

Thats not "junk" man. did you see that chair with the mirror and the fake jewels on it ? the hookah ? I ran by it but i should have dragged it all home. priceless.

The police don't give tickets for red lights you expect littering to hit their radar. I thinketh not.
Maybe a special task force-even if part voluntary may help get things rolling.
