Description
This is a terrific new intersection, But, Old Milton is backing up.
The folks turning left coming southbound on NorthPoint are gridlocking the people going north on NorthPoint. I don't know if they are coming into the intersection when the light is yellow?
I and another car proceded straight ( 2 cars) and were still left hanging in the middle of the intersection after the light had turned red. Either the lights further down east on OldMilton need to accomodate the flow or the southbound left turn needs to be adjusted here. All the cars in the new left turns on Northbound NorthPoint are making it through the light which is good.

Unfortunately, the sheer volume of vehicles using State Route 120 / Old Milton Parkway during the peak morning and evening commute periods exceeds the capacity of the road to the point that gridlock during those periods is unavoidable. At this time, the State has no plans to increase capacity on the roadway, and without additional capacity adjusting signal timing along the corridor will not have an impact.
With respect to the issue of drivers blocking the intersection, this is a growing problem at several locations in Alpharetta and surrounding municipalities. Our staff is currently exploring possible initiatives that can be sustained and that will have positive impact. Enforcement, alone, is an insufficient response, as drivers will continue to block the intersections anytime police are not present.
