Hold on.. Did anyone say they were upset about him improving his home? The last time I checked, you need to go through city hall to tear up a sidewalk. Did he do this or just take it upon himself? It looks like crap and it's unsafe. It's called maintaining a standard.

I agree. At night someone could easily hurt themselves on a broken sidewalk. It was careless and selfish to do so.

Got any pictures of the sidewalk before it was demo'd? I'm suspect that it didn't look much different based on how well kept the rest of the sidewalks are in that area.

Judging by the yellow caution tape, the blue marked arrows in the street and the upgrades to the front of the house I would hope the homeowner is making an attempt at safety. I agree however that it should be supervised, approved or guided by public safety as well as personal safety by some city agency or code process. Could someone from the city go out and speak with the person doing the work? Is this a new homeowner who the neighbors could approach or has his ben an ongoing problem with this property? It does look like more of the area could use road and sidewalk repair as well. How about a neighborhood meeting?

A preliminary search shows a number of legitimate permits on the house pulled this year. It looks like there is yellow caution tape roping off the area, which is a good start; a bit more of it might be helpful. I could see this being a major problem if it was just left torn up, but I'm not sure how this is avoidable given the proximity of the house to the sidewalk. How long has it been like this? (And I think it's 303 Summit St, according to the City's permits).

I saw a stop work order on the door last week, all I have to say is if you are going to do work like that illegally then do it in a weekend.
