Yes - this needs to be improved. I commute each morning into PA from Christopher Lake and there is a lot of traffic heading in to PA. I see the line-ups trying to get onto the bridge. I stay in the left-hand lane, but for me it works as I turn left on 15th. The PA area is growing and the city needs address these traffic issues.

I agree, I drive in from the north and always use the left hand lane to avoid any merging traffic from Shellbrook, Meath Park and Nordale areas. It bugs me alot when drivers don't merge by taking turns....taking turns is faster and does not create any backups!

Traffic coming from the north should remember there are THREE merges trying to get into that right hand lane just before the bridge (one from Shellbrook highway, one from Riverside Drive, and one coming in from the Candle Lake highway). The Riverside Drive merge is almost ALWAYS icy as hell, so if you DO get a small window of opportunity to pull out you're stuck spinning on ice!! I've seen more people move over to the left lane after merging off the Candle Lake Highway than the traffic coming from the north! Thanks to those with some courtesy!!! For those coming in from the north PLEASE try to use the left lane if you can!!!!!

But by traffic laws, you are not supposed to move out of your lane for cars waiting to merge, also if you are wanting to turn off of the bridge onto river street from the right hand lane and you moved to the left lane to let all the merging traffic on then good luck getting back into the right lane before the exit comes up, its like every stop sign...you just have to wait

It's called yielding, it's what you're supposed to do,when the bridge is busy, people are not going to reduce it to one lane. Although if I see people trying to merge i try to get into the other lane out of courtesy. But unfortunately there's nothing you can do, just be thankfull you don't live in Toronto or something.

how about this for a solution ,drive over to the Shellbrook highway and come into town that way .That way you actually have a merge lane to quicken the flow .Otherwise those are just yield signs coming on the bridge not merge lanes .! ! ! Or you could dart out into trffic like so many others and hope the driver was paying attention and not texting or talking on their cell phone ,hhhmm which is against the law I hear

This is PA half the people make up there own rules. And the other half are to DRUNK to care.

I completely agree with you. I have crossed that bridge everyday for years now, and I always used to make sure that I was in the left lane while approaching those merging lanes. Except a few years ago I was coming in to town in the right lane, which was unusual for me that day, and a truck coming across the bridge heading out of town, was speeding in the their left lane and lost control and jumped the meridian and I narrowly missed getting involved in a head on, all because I was driving in the right lane that day. But I come into town now so early in the morning that I am lucky if I ever see a vehicle on the bridge. But there are times when I see everyone driving in the right lane, and there is an endless line of vehicles waiting their turns to merge.

If it takes 10 or 20 minutes from that corner to get onto the bridge, why not just drive the few blocks to get into that line of trafic going straight thru the lights onto the bridge. (if that made sence)

No body in this city knows how to merge. Then you go to Saskatoon and all the streets that go onto circle merge so nicely. Its never going to change, its only going to get worse in this city.

You're also supposed to pre-anticipate lane changes, so if you need to stay in the right lane because you will be turning right soon, there is no point in weaving out of traffic and cutting people off to get back into your lane. You'll just have to live with it, because according what we learn in school, people on the highway have the right of way and should not slow down, speed up, or change lanes just for merging traffic.
So I guess you're stuck with leaving earlier than you have to.

correction to the frustrated poster ,there is only one merge lane lane ,and that"s when you come from Shellbrook,the others as you'll see have big yeild signs to warn you of oncoming traffic ,Not to say I'm a big jacked up diesel truck and get the f$%# over or the little rice rocket whose driver is late for school and can not wait at yeild sign .There should be traffic lights put up at the two yeild signs

Seriously, if you need to turn onto River Street off the bridge, changing lanes to the left and back to the right will not be a problem for you as merging traffic will take awhile to get up to speed.

Besides which, you're probably still flying through at 100kph despite the 60kph limit, so it won't take long for you to get by the 'slow pokes' on the right anyway.
