Agreed Scott ... Biking is safer ON the road, but a nice wide shoulder makes it more compatible. Either way, there is just not enough room for anything but cars in this section of Middlebelt ... which typically go 45 mph.

In the photo you will notice guardrail on both sides of the road in this stretch. The reason the guardrail is there is because there is a drop off on either side of the road. That means that widening the road would require a lot of backfilling on either side of the road. This is both costly and distruptive of the natural environment. However, since there is no funding available to do such work, the environmental questions are moot at this point.

Cars routinely drive through here at 45 mph. It get's even worse walking through here in the winter with snow on the road. If WB Twp continues to refuse to act on the safety path then a reduced speed limit and better signage are necessary.

Why don't you people use the nature trails in the area instead of walking along a busy road and causing distractions for motorists? Your tax dollars paid for the nature trails, so use them instead of demanding the County to waste money and disrupt traffic for however many months it would take them to create a little path for you.

S, If you are challenged by driving and sharing the road with other legal users, you should consider staying off the roads. Bicyclists are not distractions. They are traffic too and have the same rights to this section of road that you have.
