It's very sad to watch this city continue to implode on itself. Where is the accountability? Are there defined and clearly outlined outcomes? How does management (the mayor's office) allow its department heads (commissioners, e.g. park/rec, public works, police) to fall short of what anyone anywhere else would consider reasonable outcomes -- clean and safe streets, enforced laws, timely delivery of public services, to name a few -- on a yearly and continually declining basis? Try calling the police department and asking that your neighbor be fined for putting out garbage five days in advance of pickup, and see what kind of response you get (hint: none). Try calling the police department and reporting the blatant use of alcoholic beverages -- in glass containers, no less -- on the beach, and see what kind of response that gets (hint: none). And similarly with what's reported here. This is a city that is mired in a mindset of enforced dysfunction, and that will continue until the city administration is purged of the old-school good 'ol boy network that runs things (...into the ground). sad sad sad.
