I live in the country and get appliances dumped off on my property all the time. very ugly after a few years. Im then charged if I pick it up and take to a landfill. There should be a charge when large appliances/furniture is bought then landfills could be paid from that fund. Yes I know this wouldnt be simple but its a start.
its absoloutly disgusting!! a road near by has a blocked off old path and there are over 8 bags of garbage piled there. are people seriously that cheap that they cant pay to haul it into the landfill?
i agree ever since the fees went up at the city landfill the garbage has been dumped east of the city on hwy 302. it is not fair that our RM has to go around picking up the stoves, fridges, matresses and washers and dryers and couches up. Why are these people doing this not caught and punished. if i did this no doubt someone would catch me. Please lets get a grip on our community and stop this along with the ignorant snow mobilers.
I actually know a person who found a bag of garbage on a rural road, opened it and found mail in the bag, so he went and dumped it back on their lawn, and sadly got in trouble. ironic isnt it
A few years back the RMs had their own dumps. Now many have to use the PA dump and pay a fee to use it. This in no way excuses the arsholes who dump garbage wherever they think is convenient but it does add to the problem. Maybe the local RMs could have large bins at drop off points like the RM of Lakeland is using?
As for people who jus litter they should be fined and made to clean up a few miles of ditch. A mile of litter and dirty diapers would make them rethink about just keeping their garbage til they can dispose of it properly.
People are slobs.
It's no better in the city: our scummy neighbours dump their garbage on our property and when we complained, the bylaw officer threatened to give US the ticket! How screwed up is that?
People are slobs everywhere! In town or out in the country, litter is dumped out everywhere!! I am mostly a pedestrian, and crossing drive-through lanes, people stop and dump their ashtrays from their cars; dirty diapers are all over the parking lots. Heavier fines for litterbugs??
Pretty sure the fine for littering in BC was around $2,000 when we were there last summer, at least that's what the signs said. The city always says how broke it is, start handing out $500 littering tickets. It'll help fill city coffers and clean up our dirty little town at the same time.
I agree vlasic. Bigger fines and people will hopefully stop, I think we could use a few more rcmp officers so that when there's complaints for stuff like this out of town they will have people to come deal with it who aren't always "on a case" or hear "well get someone out whenever we can"
Just wondering... In order to get fined for littering, do they have to get caught in the act, or can we use the services of CrimeStoppers and get a positive outcome??
it woudl be nice if it worked through crime stoppers, but then they would have to go through the garbage. And come on, its pretty obvious that you or someone in your household is dumping your garbage if your old mail or something with your name is repeatedly in the bag.
We live right beside the Provincial forest so get to call the Conservation Officers to get things done. We have found names in trash or watched people drive past our house with a pile of garbage in the back of their truck and drive back without it.....hmmm got description plate # etc. and the officers went and found them and told them they have 24 hours to clean it up or they would be fined and while they were at it could clean up some of the others trash laying around there. Unfortunately we don't always catch someone or they are smart enough not to leave their name in the trash so there is far more garbage in the forest than gets picked up. A local man organized a trail ride two years ago to help with the costs of picking up the trash in the forest and they took huge loads to the dump. People just have to stop being so selfish. You can recycle a lot of things so they don't go to the dump and really $5 for a truck? They probably spent more gas driving around to find a spot to dump it. RM of Buckland residents can buy a dump pass for I believe $25/year. Any garbage I found wasn't from rural residents :(
funny how people will drive 10 miles or more to dump their garbage off on the grid roads or along the highway but won't drive across the river to the dump and PAY for their garbage to be dumped off. Disgusting to see mattresses, appliances, you name it we see it. Even nicer are all the BEER bottles and BEER cans that litter our roads!! IT is getting worse cause NO ONE is getting fined or held accountable for the NASTY things they are doing!! Take a look in the alleys in PA it's obvious that the dumping grounds are all over including rural areas..DISGUSTING!!!
I live in Buckland,I see garbage almost every day, along the Shellbrook highway or along the back road to the dump. It is disgusting. Fines should be enforced.I once went through the garbage to find a name or adress, called them but they totally denied they had dumped it there.
Pick it up. Have you and your family out and make a day of it often as possibe. Good chance to spend time with family, teaches them about environment and keeping areas looking nice and clean, and get some exercise.
I totally agree that these are ignorant and disgusting. They hve no shame. I would hate to see what there houses look like or there backyards.Maybe if we found perhaps an address on some of this garbage someone could fine them for littering. CG
I also live out in buckland. The beer cans and bottles get picked on a regular bases by slot of people. As for couches and washer, dryers, fridges and averything else hell the rm doesnt even care. What we should do id dump our garbage on the city streets.
if you ask at the dump if you can clean it up, ther response was "only if you pay". The higher the dump rates the worse the problem.
if you find a letter or somthing in the garbage with someones name on it, prefer a few items, call SERM and they will deal with it, I called them about some trash on a quad trail and they made the people come out and clean it up, dont clean it yourself thats what the people expect is going to happen
