New to the area, I see signs posted saying 30 mph strictly enforced on Albany Ave. Driving 30 mph, in the right lane, I have been beeped at,given the finger and sped by. No one drives 30 mph on that road. So do I drive 30 mph and fear being rear-ended or worse, or do I drive 40-45 like everyone else and chance getting a ticket? Why not just change the speed limit.

you better obey the speed limit. The town of ulster cops now have a ticket quota they have to make. so they re out there writing everyone.

I, too, get passed as if I was standing still. Where are the police? They should not increase the speed limit; there needs to be better enforcement.

I don't think the speed limit should be increased. We already had one death in this area...maybe Town of Ulster police need to patrol a bit better.

I have tried driving 35 in the city, and I am a road hazard. I drive 40 on Albany Ave because I have no choice. I know a woman who got a ticket years ago on Ulster Avenue doing 50, and she told the officer she was just driving with traffic. I do 40 and I get passed.

BECAUSE IT IS A FOUR LANE ROAD, MOST PEOPLE BELIEVE THE SPEED LIMIT IT AT LEAST 45 ,ALL THE DRIVERS ARE SO ATTUNED TO THAT . AS STATED BEFORE MAKE IT A ONE LANE ROAD EACH WAY WITH A TURNING LANE ON IT AND THE PROBLEM COULD VERY WELL BE SOLVED.

This has been a problem ever since Albany/Ulster Avenue was made four lanes back in the 1970s. The Ulster Town Police used to set up speed traps until they were court ordered to stop. Since IBM closed, it is time to restore this street to a two lane + center lane and reduce the amount of traffic on it and force folks to use 9W to get to downtown Kingston.

Susan: The speed limit was set a long time ago and should remain at 30 MPH. This particular street has a long history of serious crashes (and fatalities) because folks will 'fly' along it and then someone is pulling out of one of the side streets or businesses and then 'crash' followed by "Oh My God!" Keeps the people at UH5 very busy (or it did.)

Try getting out of my driveway on Albany Ave. Almost impossable. Not only are drivers racing down Albany ave. Just to sit at the Red light at the Col. chandler dr. intersection, but they act as though they own the road too, honking and giving obscene gestures when you try to get into traffic. There is way too much traffic for this road, and in the six years there have been as many accidents in front of my home, One involving a Mack dumop truck that plowed into 5 parked cars and sending one 50 or so yards into on coming traffic, a miracle no one was killed. I have been hit while pulling into my driveway by someone passing me on the double yellow line. I've also seen cars end up in the neighbors fence. We don't dare let our son play in the front yard. Albany Ave. has become a raceway, and needs to be policed.

I hate this road...
With all the turning going on and people passing one another it isn't really that safe to go 45. At 30 mph you would have a easier time stopping when traffic all of a sudden stops because someone is making a right or left hand turn somewhere. I feel bad for the people who live around there trying to get out of streets without stoplights.

The Speeding on Albany and Ulster Avenue has been this way for years and the Police agencies dont seem to care
