Yes -- contents of email I received on August 9th:
We just had two attempted bike thefts on Bradley near State at about 2:30 pm. In front of #139, there was an older bike chained to a pole. Further up near State was another. I came outside and saw a black male teenager wearing long blue jeans and a black shirt with white writing on the back.
I noticed that the street sign had been removed from the pole near 139 and the other one further near State. The kid was with the second bike and was had already taken the bike off the pole and had apparently stood on a trash can to hoist the bike over and removed the bolt holding the street sign in place.
After I spotted him, he tried to take off with the second bike but ended up dropping it near the underpass of State and Bradley St. I contacted the police and they sent two officers rather quickly. He was last headed on State St. towards downtown.
The kid wasn't caught yet, but (I know Lisa has said this time and time again), bring your bikes inside if you can. If you can't, do not leave them out for extended periods of time. They aren't concerned about the locks as those can be cut off later. They just have to lift the pole out of the ground or over the pole and they are on their way so leaving them chained up should not give you a false sense of security.
The police are taking the bike because we don't know who it belongs to. It's a greenish colored mountain bike with a milk crate on the back.
Take 5 seconds to make yourself a hardened target folks... If you are missing your bike -- call the police's non emergency line 203-946-6316.
