A crosswalk at 44th and Cedar would really help people walking this stretch of Cedar...the closest crosswalks are at 42nd and 46th...a very long stretch of road!

(1) A crosswalk painted at the intersection.
(2) A "State Law: Yield to Pedestrians in Crosswalk"
sign placed in the center of the street (see photo attached).
(3) Signs placed on the boulevards several yards north and south of the intersection with the "Pedestrian Crossing" universal picture (see photo attached).
(4) A thick bold white line painted parallel to the crosswalk showing traffic where they should stop (see photo attached).
Please re-evaluate this intersection given the above suggestions, which would help alleviate the safety concerns that there is not a stop light at the intersection.

Hey Guys,
We lobbied for these in New Haven, CT last year.
My community org bought the first three and then we watched the speeds drop and tons of people saying that the cars were actually stopping for them.
(You can search for pedestrian sign in New Haven and check archived issues to hear testimony)
A year later the city has placed them at every unsignalized crosswalk.
I am a huge Ped Sign evangelist if you can't tell.
They are awesome! Good Luck.

Ped signs and some paint would be great! Sounds like an immensely effective solution for little- to no money. In fact, I'm sure the neighborhood groups would buy the signs!
What are you waiting for, Minneapolis?
I can think of many examples of crosswalks in the city where paint and signs are making life safer for pedestrians, even without stoplights.

We are also researching doing some native plantings at this intersection to create visual interest, again with the purpose of lowering speeds.
Thanks to city council members Elizabeth Glidden and John Quincy for your many efforts to help make this happen.

Dear Jeri,
We appreciate your email.
The City no longer installs or maintains speed humps/bumps, speed tables, or traffic calming devices due to budget reductions.
The most effective approach to addressing vehicle speeding issues or moving violations is through police enforcement. Please contact your Police Precinct to request an increase in patrol and enforcement.
Speed issues or traffic calming are also supported by placing mobile speed measuring devices ‘Speed Trailer’ on the street to inform drivers of excessive speeds.
Please use the following link to request a ‘Speed Trailer’
http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/traffic/speed-trailer.asp
Regarding the request for crosswalks, marked crosswalks are only used as a channelizing devices at signal controlled locations and school patrolled locations. a marked crosswalk has not been proven to ba a safety device
If there is anything else we can help you with please contact us. Thank you for emailing the City of Minneapolis.
