Parking lanes here are too shallow and traffic is too fast near this park. The only parking option for most people who use this recreational area is very dangerous, especially with small children.
I agree with Jeri above, but even a reduction in speed wouldn't be enough to make this a safe area. Width would have to be added to the road to make a difference.
I would vote for PROTECTED parking and curb bump-outs and integrated crosswalks. As it is, there are NO crosswalks in the entire park stretch... sort of a high risk 'Frogger' situation.

This is still a dangerous mess and needs attention. It's a wonder there aren't more serious accidents in this area. I would imagine it's just a matter of time.
Wide roads as suggested by Fran would actually increase speeds, reducing safety along Cedar Ave. Sidewalk bumpouts and other calming measures would help.
How about marking and lighting the existing unmarked crosswalk at 50th Street and Cedar Ave, to remind people to properly yield ROW. Also, an easy fix is to reduce the speed limit to 30 MPH between Minnehaha Parkway and Lake Nokomis Parkway.

It would help to reduce the posted speed by 5mph, and to actually POST speed limit signs along this stretch of the avenue.

Still a mess, even more dangerous with the start of after school athletics... which run up until dusk.
PLEASE MAKE THIS SAFER.

Agreed, this could really use crosswalk bumpouts and a 30 MPH speed limit.
