Description
MANYcars with parking permits have parked ILLEGALLY for years, Mon-Fri, at the same metered locations on lower Mott Street using a Court Officer and NYPD and Corrections parking permits. That's not a typo - this illegal parking has gone on for YEARS!!! Aside from the blight, NYC loses more than $50-million a year in parking meter revenue from government employee commuters abusing their parking permits - That's about a 1/2-BILLION dollars lost since Bloomberg's been in office. NYPD Traffic Enforcement (212) 233-0878) was contacted and the cars have been documented - please note this is EVERY working day. 'Can't run a city or a business like that. Councilmember Margaret Chin has walked by illegally parked cars all the time in Chinatown but she's more concerned right now with a double tax, the Business Improvement District and also getting tourists arrested for scoring knock-offs on Canal Street.

Downtowner,
Definitely not surprising! Government workers routinely park illegally, especially Downtown. The irony is that Court Officer permits are actually illegal for use on NYC streets.
There's a campaign to stop these abuses, and much progress has already been made -- check it out at http://uncivilservants.org

Despite notifying a Traffic Enforcement Supervisor AND an Integrity Control Officer - this vehicle with a Court Officer placard and many others continue to park on lower Mott Street.
NYC has lost about 1/2 BILLION dollars from parking meter abuse by government sector employees since Bloomberg's been in office. Do you think this money should be reimbursed out of their government worker pensions?

Another pic of this car, illegally parked for OVER 1 1/2 YEARS!!!

This car is STILL parked undisturbed every working day on Mott Street -, I have recent photographs. Now it's been greater than 1 1/2 years. How can we citizens of NYC have any respect for this group of CITY EMPLOYEES who flaunts such flagrant parking permit abuse? This parking permit abuse is all done at great cost and expense to the City!!!! Over 1/2 BILLION dollars lost in the last ten years!! Where is our Councilmember Margaret Chin who should be looking into this personally?

New Yorker Who Cares:
I understand your frustration! The good news is the City Council has a bill that will hopefully go a way to solving this issue. Expect a hearing in April. here are more details:

THIS ISSUE IS DEFINITELY NOT FIXED! THIS SAME CAR WITH A COURT OFFICER"S PLACARD STILL PARKS FOR FREE AT NYC's (and yours and mine) EXPENSE!! This has gone on now for at least 20 MONTHS!!! I'm waiting for Councilmember Margaret Chin to do something about this - Ms. Chin walks past this car every single working day of the year!!!

Court Officers still parking freely - costing all of New Yorkers many millions ($46-million a year) in lost parking meter revenue - Time to do something Mr. Bloomberg, Comm. Kelly!

Cars with placards illegally parked on metered spots on Mott Street, it's a ripoff to NYC to the tune of over $46-million a year!

Well, that Blue Honda has moved off of Mott Street, but associated other Court Officers, Corrections Officers, NYPD, District Attorney people still park illegally all over Mott Street every working day. It makes no difference if ONE car moves, presumably to another place where Traffic Enforcement Officers just walk by. Let's be clear - these government sector employees - Court Officers, NYPD, etc. - are parking ILLEGALLY - this is called a POSTED SIGN VIOLATION, and Traffic Enforcement officers are SPECIFICALLY INSTRUCTED BY THEIR SUPERVISORS TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY AND IGNORE POSTED SIGN VIOLATIONS THAT ARE COMMITTED THOUSANDS OF TIMES A DAY, costing NYC over $46-million a year in lost parking meter revenue.

Unfortunately Councilmember Margaret Chin is out busy trying to arrest tourists for buying knockoffs and is still doing nothing about the rampant parking permit abuse that she walks by every working day.

That Blue Honda is now gone but Court Officers still chronically park ILLEGALLY with permits on Mott Street, a POSTED SIGN VIOLATION that has occurred for YEARS, costing the NYC many millions of dollars annually. Councilmember Margaret Chin walks by these cars everyday and yet does nothing to deter these government commuter cars from causing loss of businesses in Chinatown. How can you respect a law officer who breaks the law or a councilmember who lets this happen for years???

Illegally parking with placards, a Posted Sign Violation, is unfortunately common on Mott Street where there are metered spots. NYC losses so much money because of this - $50-million a year. How can we respect officers who flagrantly defy regulation at NYC's expense? Photo taken 6/14/2011, and it looks the same every working da.

Mott Street, Chinatown, NYC - The Blue Honda is STILL PARKING ON A METER SPOT TODAY - 6-15-2011. Almost TWO YEARS ON A METER SPOT -
THIS COSTS THE CITY MANY, MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS A YEAR - IT'S AWFUL FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES WHO CAN'T ACCOMMODATE THEIR CUSTOMERS - I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO RESPECT FOR COURT OFFICERS WHO ABUSE THEIR PERMITS - EVERYONE PAYS, I can't believe how selfish this parking permits abuse is!! Counciilmember Margaret Chin walks by these cars illegally parked with placards on meters EVERYDAY and has done nothing to stop this abuse.

This is NOT resolved and government worker commuters continue to park ILLEGALLY with their placards on Mott Street. Our Councilmember Margaret Chin has really turned a blind eye for years on this issue which is bad for business and quality of life on Mott Street, Bayard Street and all over Chinatown!!

This is NOT resolved - cars illegally parking in the heart of Chinatown - causing regular loss of business - occurs every working day. Councilmember Margaret Chin has done virtually nothing in past years and this chronic blight on Chinatown continues under her watch.

A 1/2-BILLION DOLLARS of lost parking meter revenue since Bloomberg's been in office. Need we say more? Yes, we do need to say more. Aside from the lost revenue, this parking placard abuse hurts small businesses greatly and local residents cannot even use parking spaces in their own neighborhood!!!
No Permit Parking !!! It's Illegal!! (Guest)
We need more signs like this one!!!

That car STILL parks all day all the time with impunity. It's a disgrace and people like this cost taxpayers in NYC 50 million a year. Really, where is Councilmember Margaret Chin?!
