Description
There are two paid traffic officers standing at this intersection yet I had to navigate an excavator, a public works truck and a concrete truck to cross between two sidewalks that are not open. The police are supposed to be there to assist pedestrians and vehicles not chit chat right? Can a senior officer please visit the site.

I know this spot, and drive through it daily. They are ALWAYS chit-chatting, I agree!

Was stuck in the middle of chapel blocking all traffic waiting for a city bus to negotiate the weaves of left and right lanes closed. Officer 1 response- too busy texting. Officer 2 looking at problem. Officer 3 staring off into space.
You will need to notify the Sargent in charge of traffic duty officers, call 946-6316 and ask who that is- leave message-wait for call back. Note: Have called- Sargeant in charge(cant remember his name) is VERY responsive to calls and complaints.

Thanks John Q. I also called the City CAO who said the same thing about the Sargeant on duty. It would be good if we could get an email that would be sent to Sargeants handling these complaints so that these tickets are sent to them automatically. There are many issues similar to this popping up on SeeClickFix. We should close them out once all traffic officers have been retrained to be more polite and helpful to pedestrians and noticeable changes have been made.

i don't think sergeants have blackberries - it would have to go to the district commanders (lieutenants) - i could be wrong though

I agree with the email idea or maybe a txt alert???. There is an appointed sargeant to supervise officers on traffic duty although the district managers can also put in there 2 cents if officers are neglecting their duties.
They all have cellphones too as they are driving around talking on them all the time LOL.

We can definitely help set-up text alerts for the police!

Today the lights at Chapel and State were being replaced. I waited for over 5 minutes for the officer to let me cross the street. Other pedestrians were not so patient and crossed at their own risk without the assistance of the Officer paid to conduct traffic control and safety.
Attached is a video of the last minute of that wait.
Retraining needs to happen immediately for all traffic safety officers in New Haven.

Here is another example of poor traffic policing. The pedestrian does a decent job of stopping traffic on his own though is clearly not fit to be doing so. The pedestrian lights were out or blocked and there is an Officer on duty. This is at Chapel and State.
I believe the fault lies in the training not the individual Officer

Ridiculous. I am so tired of NHPD officers who give a bad name to the rest of them.

Closing as the construction is now complete in this area.
