Description

An African American Woman has been running a thriving, unlicensed, unpermitted metal recycling business out of this property for at least 2 years. She has 3 old pick up trucks parked on the block. "Buggy people", (persons with obvious signs of drug addiction) come by at all hours of the day and night to drop off metal. Workmen on site bang apart materials and sort them into the 3 trucks. She pays the "buggy people" cash for whatever they have presumably pried off some property owners building. She is keen to keep her business "below the radar", so she sweeps up the sidewalk and keeps. If you "google map" this address, you'll see one of the trucks parked in front of her house. She says she's the owner of the house, but I'm not sure if that's true. I would guess that her enterprise fills 10 pick up trucks per week. the money she pays the "buggy people" fuels their addiction and perpetuates the problem. If the City has the resources, they could do a "sting" simply by following one of the pick ups to the metal recycling place where she turns the stolen metal into cash. My understanding is that metal recycling centers are not supposed to receive stolen goods. The noise and blight her illegal enterprise causes to our neighborhood had driven down property values, has attracted a steady stream of drug addicted zombies. I am a local Broker and property owner who wishes to improve Oakland. Putting people like her out of business would go a long way to improving our neighborhood. I appreciate any action your agency can take. Thank you.
