Description
This problem involves traffic on Granny White Pike. Southbound cars on Granny White Pike that want to turn right onto Shackleford Rd. must yield to cars on Granny White that are turning left onto Shackleford, thanks to the yield sign that was put up fairly recently. The problem is with the curvature of Granny White at that point; southbound cars on Granny White that are coming up behind the car yielding at Shackleford cannot see the left-turning vehicle and therefore run the risk of hitting the car that is turning left (and that car can't see the oncoming traffic easily, either). The yield sign should be removed and a traffic-sensing light should be installed. I have seen several near-hits and a serious accident is bound to happen.

This is correct. The entire Granny White Pike in both directions need help. I live on Granny white,
and the intersection is a mess all directions starting at 4PM every work day. Something has to be fixed here in this area.

Am just adding my voice to these complaints - this is a terribly designed intersection - I agree just an accident waiting to happen and I don't think it will be anyone's fault. You have to be a mind reader to negotiate a turn here in any direction.

Once again, the idiots of Metro Traffic have failed miserably! They put up a perfect flashing yield sign for southbound with NO signage for Northbound traffic!! This, and cell phones, is what causes all the confusion! Hang Up and Drive!

Still no movement on this issue since the yield sign was posted, except a yield sign makes absolutely no sense at that intersection. Southbound cars turning right onto Shackleford would have to check behind them to see if the cars in back of them are planning to turn or continuing on Granny White, which would prevent northbound cars from turning left. Not to mention, it's nearly impossible to make a left turn from Shackleford onto Granny White during peak traffic times.

At this time, improvements to this intersection are being considered including a traffic signal and additional lanes. For further questions or concerns, call Customer Service at 862-8750.

A traffic light, it seems to me, is the only logical solution--especially if it is a traffic-sensing light (since there are times of the day when the traffic is relatively sparse). Since I originally posted this concern five months ago, I have almost never been in this intersection without observing obvious confusion and near-misses on the part of drivers in the area--including me!
