Description
On most lights, after the arrow is done flashing yellow, it turns to green because you have already moved into the intersection. At 25 Mile and Schoenherr the blinking yellow arrow turns to red instead of green, so you are stuck in the middle of the intersection on a red arrow, this is if you are heading north on Schoenherr.

Some signals will allow a "leading" left for left turns prior to thru traffic and some signals will allow a "lagging" left for left turns after the thru traffic.
If you have any concerns or questions related to Macomb County roads, signals, maintenance, etc., please contact the Road Commission directly at geninfo@rcmcweb.org or at 586.463.8671. Thank you.

a so called "lagging left" is really an "accident waiting to happen"!

This intersection is equipped with the becoming-more-popular "dynamic Signal timing" system that includes cameras/sensors that are supposed to dole out green and red time based on demand in the turn bay and in each direction. It is indeed confusing, and can lead to problems as you have stated. In my case, I have objection to green signals that last 5 seconds -- enough to let the one car immediately waiting to get through, but if your car is approaching a few hundred feet away and you think the light will stay green for 20 to 45 seconds like conventional intersections, you are sadly mistaken and must slam on your brakes as the yellow and red lights appear. Our cities have paid lots of our tax dollars and our intersections are less safe, with little or no improvement in wait time, and the same traffic back-ups.

You are not supposed to wait in the intersection to turn left.
