Traffic and Parking has reviewed Lexington Ave at the playground.
The installation of Stop signs is governed by the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The MUTCD is a federal, state and city standard.
A Stop sign at this location does not meet the parameters/standards of the MUTCD. A Stop sign can not be installed on Lexington St at the Playground. Have A Good Day
Ok, but what we really want is some form of traffic calming here. Since you're the experts in traffic, can you tell us what type of traffic calming is possible to add?
Lexington is a long, straight street, and is a popular cut-through route for cars avoiding the slow Willow & Highland intersection. Commuters get going really fast through there!
Skrap, the traffic engineer for the city made the determination that no additional traffic calming measures were needed at this location. If you do not agree with this assessment we encourage you to bring this issue before the traffic commission. The meet monthly and the meeting are open to the public. Here is the link: http://www.somervillema.gov/departments/traffic-commission There is no further action 311 is able to take on this matter so we are closing out the request.
