Regent Street between Lincoln Avenue and Union Avenue has increasingly become a busy shortcut for speeding drivers looking to avoid Broadway traffic on their route between South Broadway and Union Avenue (and other parts north, and vice versa).

On these two blocks of Regent Street, there is a busy church with daily soup kitchen and daycare/playground, the Beagle School preschool, the Waldorf School, and Empire State College (so, lots of children, and pedestrians in general, along with parked cars).

Cars speeding through these busy blocks are often accelerating, and traveling at dangerous speeds without regard for area residents. Just today, a driver (maroon pickup) was witnessed on this stretch, intentionally speeding up and swerving to hit and kill a crow in the road. Who or what is next?

Thankfully, a four-way stop was installed at Regent Street/Park Place a few years ago, making that very accident-prone intersection a bit safer. But this "wide" section of Regent Street remains a dragstrip. Help!
