Description
Dozens of residents on Mansfield St ride bicycles on a daily basis, but there are no bicycle racks on the street. Presently people must hitch their bikes to whatever posts, fences, or signs they happen upon, making for awkward bike parking and putting the bikes at risk. Residents and students on the street would benefit from a partnership between landlords and Yale to provide one bicycle rack per block on each side of the street. This modest investment would promote sustainable transportation, deter bicycle theft, and possibly contribute to real estate values.

More racks are being installed behind some of the houses (e.g., by Yale), but they are really need in the front areas, along the curbs, for visitors, daytime workers in the area, and residents.
For matters of convenience and safety, the front areas are where people currently park their bikes. The city and property owners are being a bit arrogant if they think that people will change their behavior just because they install racks somewhere else.
Going door to door with a petition for racks in front yards would go a long way towards convincing the city and Yale to install them.
