Description
I almost saw a couple of pedestrians struck down by a driver plowing through this dangerous intersection over the long holiday weekend. This is another intersection on Orange Street that urgents needs an in-street pedestrian sign, and some creative undercover traffic enforcement as well.

I've seen several accidents here over the years and it's particularly scary around 8-8:30AM and around 5PM. Between 8-8:30AM it's particularly dangerous because of a lot of kids are crossing on their way to Worthington Hooker kindergarten.
Today as I crossed with my 5-year-old son, I could see a line of 4-5 cars on either side of Orange St (Canner St) and a non-stop flux of traffic in both directions on Orange St. Which leads to Canner St. drivers to dash-and-pray across Orange - often into into traffic - to get across. Meanwhile, Orange St drivers going SW are often making a left onto Canner as a shortcut to I-91, often barely missing on-coming traffic and pedestrians who are crossing Canner.
This intersection is really dangerous and something needs to be done. A pedestrian sign in not enough. The cars are plowing into each other too. I think this intersection has enough volume to justify a traffic light (even if there's another one a block away). Also, cops should be on the lookout for cars that park -illegally- too close to the intersection. At that point, visibility for Canner St. drivers is completely gone.
BTW: There's another ticket open on this subject (maybe they should be merged?) "Dangerous intersection - Canner & Orange"
