This issue has improved somewhat but it is not resolved. Saturday there was a AAA towtruck idling in this location and just yesterday there was a passenger vehicle idling there. Isn't there any such thing as a "No Idling" sign? I don't think drivers understand how harmful it is.
Just yesterday there was a PGW truck idling at this location and the day before a police cat was idling under the overpass. I have to travel beneath the overpass at least twice a day and usually, there is a vehicle that thinks it is ok to be idling there. Can't there be signs posted?
Hi Deborah!
Thanks for continuing to report on this idling issue. I think a sign is a great idea for this location. Getting a sign hung on a public street is difficult. The best way of hanging a sign is to find a nearby business or resident willing to put it up on their property.
We have signs available, please let us know if you can identify any potential businesses or residents in close proximity to the idling location.
Thanks!

Hi Nick,
Although no one lives or works in the approx 200 foot area directly under the overpass, not only am I am a resident on the block willing to post a sign, I am sure that other residents closer to the overpass would post a sign if they could. (There is only one business on the corner at each end of the block) What would need to be done exactly to get the signs posted?
Thanks very much for your attention to this issue,
Debbie
Deborah,
Can you talk to your neighbors and/or the local businesses to find the closest place to the overpass where someone is willing to hang a sign. Once you have identified a spot for the sign give me a call at the number below and we can coordinate how to get it to you and how to hang it up.
I have a neighbor willing to hang a sign at the west end of the overpass and I want to hang a sign at my end. Can we please coordinate getting and hanging the signs? Should I call you about it?
Many thanks,
Debbie
If the vehicles that are idling are diesel powered and over 8,500 lbs our agency, Air Management Services, is able to issue idling violations if warranted. Our inspectors will keep an eye on the location but please contact us at 215-685-7580 so we can log your complaint.
I posted No Idling signs which really help! I am waiting for the City to provide a basic "No Idling Allowed" sign that isn't restricted to large vehicles. I believe the law applies to all vehicles and more people need to know it is not allowed for us to be a green city. This would be a simple solution to a huge problem.
Provisions in the traffic code apply to cars and vehicles other than large diesels for idling. This can be addressed by the Police Department or the Parking Authority. As for street signs, you can contact the Streets Department at 215-686-5560.
If a bus, large commercial truck or construction equipment is observed to be running its engine while stationary, please contact the Air Management Services Unit at 215-685-7580.
For all other vehicles, (cars, pickup trucks, vans, motorcycles, etc.), please report them to the Police Department at 911. Thank you. (mb)
