I live at 4710 Fair and will prune the vegetation immediately. We clip and prune it regularly and already had it scheduled. Personally, I have never seen Seeclickfix used this way to report something that could be resolved with a note or phoneca...
I'm sorry that a neighbor wouldn't have the courtesy to approach a neighbor and ask her/him to trim back the vegetation. (I'm sure we all know that the sidewalk in front of the home is our responsibility, and all the City could do is contact and/or cite the homeowner. With an understaffed City DPW, they certainly don't need to be spending their time sorting our our business.)
Anonymous might actually have offered to help do the trimming—sometimes (not in this case) a neighbor is disabled or otherwise infirmed and might not be able to do the work. I hope this instance will serve to remind each of us to communicate with each other before involving the City in an issue that is not theirs to "fix.".
Thank you, Danny Cieloha for your thoughtful consideration of this issue. The attached photo shows that we have worked together with the help of some very willing friends and neighbors to take care of this issue. We trimmed the ivy, the hanging tree branches and some of the other overgrowth near the sidewalk to make it more passable. This is part of our regular and ongoing maintenance of this area. We hope that our neighbors will continue to show the respect and cooperation that we have appreciated over the past 15 years in this community. (That said, I am very disappointed by the misuse of the seeclickfix.com reporting site to lodge personal complaints; otherwise, it seems to be very effective in resolving issues of concern the community.)
City of Oakland Public Works Agency referred this issue to CODE ENFORCEMENT, service request # 460127. Please contact that agency to follow-up. For more information, please visit the "Helpful Links to Other Resource Partners" at the link below.
