Description
This building is very irritating, and it's not even done. It's a DOD project to consolidate workers from leased space in the area. It's not suitably served by public transportation. They even want to claim land in a neighboring nature preserve to build a ramp to I-395. As I watched this building go up I was annoyed that worklights burned in the structure 24/7 even when no workers were there. The attached photo was taken on a Sunday. Ironically this is a LEEDS "Silver" project which is supposed to be considerate of life-cycle environmental impact. This project doesn't make security sense by concentrating critical defense personnel in one, easy to find place.

I hear and empathize with your complaint, but is this really something that the city can *fix*? Is this appropriate for SeeClickFix? I might suggest there are better, more effective venues to raise your concerns.

I know Alexandria city can't fix this problem. I sent my concern to the US Green Building Council but they set the standards. Compliance is voluntary and not enforced. Since other attempts to contact those responsible were dead ends I posted here to see if the message would get through. I also wanted to see who else shares my concern about our new neighbor.

Peter, I'd write city council if you haven't already done so. Here's a link to email the whole council: http://www3.alexandriava.gov/contactus/mailto.php?id=610. Frankly, I'm not sure what they can really do since DoD really seems to be running the show. But Council does seem to have been pretty engaged on this issue recently and, while I'm no apologist for them or how we got where we are, I'm feel pretty confident they'd be interested in hearing your concerns. Maybe there's a way to get some of the crazy bright and wasteful night lighting shut off, for instance.

And let's not forget the noise from the job sight that wake the nearby residents as early as 5am on some mornings.
