Housing & Environmental Inspections has responded. There is a pending housing case in progress with orders to repair or demolish. The deadline has expired and the house is not in compliance. The case has been scheduled to go before City Council on 6-18-13 to request and ordinance to demolish the dwelling.

There is also a pending public nuisance case in reference to the overgrown grass and weeds with a deadline of 5-9-13. The case will be forwarded to the Street Department for abatement. Thanks.

The hearing did take place, I have requested additional information from Housing & Environmental, I will post an update once I hear back from them.

An ordinance was adopted by City Council to demolish the dwelling, however Wake County has foreclosed on the property and it is currently in the upset bid period. This current upset bid period ends on 7-22-13, if there is no upset bid then the new owner will have ten days to close on the property. The new owner will need to go before City Council to request an extension to the ordinance. We are working with Wake County to get through this process. Additional information will posted as received.

Last I checked another bid had been placed, so the bidding period was extended through today.

Can the city find out whether the bidding period ended on the 29th or whether it was extended again?

So if the upset bid period ended on the 7th, the buyer should have closed on the property by now. Is there a way to find out when he/she will go before city council to request an extension?

This is inaccurate information. The City is not contemplating any changes to the use of SeeClickFix. We encourage all citizens to use this tool. Can we stay on topic please? I'm still interested in an update on 707 S East St. It's been 3 weeks since COR said they were getting an update.

The lot was surveyed today, so I presumed the buyer has closed on the property. I will repeat my question from 2 weeks ago: is there a way to find out when he/she will go before City Council to request an extension of the demolition ordinance? I believe the ordinance gives 90 days from the day the ordinance was adopted to get the house up to code before demolition. By my count, that would be September 18th. So is it correct that if he/she does not get an extension before then, the house will be torn down on the 18th? I don't understand why we haven't gotten this information from COR/Wake County. I would go so far to say that my previous requests have been ignored.

I find it very upsetting that COR has simply stopped giving updates or answering our questions on this property. I found out through other channels that the owner will go before City Council today to request a six month extension to make repairs.

Ridiculous! The owner hasn't made changes in 8 years! Why would he update now? So frustrating! We know wonderful families who desire this property and would renovate the house to look amazing. Very annoying! Now I have to live with seeing homeless people and rats for Another 6 months and waste my time to call the cops each time and call the city mowers to come tend to the overgrown grass. City of Raleigh, you are wasting your own resources and money on this house! Owner hasn't paid taxes in 6-8 years!!!!

Well, hopefully since it is a new owner, the work will get done this time. I don't know yet whether his request was approved, but I would think so, since he just came into ownership a couple months before the demolition date.

The extension was approved.

It's very curious that the owner has not begun work on this property. I think the new deadline to have it up to code is sometime in March. It has a long way to go.

It's sad to say a bunch of slum lords and their kids buy up many of the older houses and do the bare minimum just to rent them and collect state money. It is THE WORST. These are people who actually have plenty of $$ and property to burn. And sometimes they do...
