Description
The traffic on Blake Street goes way too fast for a residential neighborhood with a playground at this intersection. Cars refuse to stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk at this corner. Many families walk or bike to this playground and West Rock Park. They have to dodge the racing cars to get across Blake. Would a traffic circle or light be possible to slow traffic at this corner? The posted 25 mph speed limit is completely ignored.

How about a pedestrian median? Narrowing the travel lanes to 9' (with 6-12" of striping on each side) and adding a median would definitely slow the traffic to a speed that is appropriate for a residential neighborhood, and is a common tactic used in other cities.
A raised / tabled intersection could also work. These were used in many locations in Cambridge, MA and not only reduced incidence of speeding from about 60% of all vehicles to about 5%, they made local residents feel much more comfortable using their streets.
