I guess from your complaints you would like to see Ansonia hire coaches? It is not lack of effort by the City, it is lack of effort by parents! All recreation level sports are run by volunteers and partially funded by the city. If you do not like the way a particular sport is run, there are many things you can do.
1. volunteer on the board of recreation - there are a couple empty seats
2. volunteer to coach
3. volunteer on the board of the sport your child plays

Most other towns do not contribute to recreation sports at all and they are all independently run by volunteers. Ansonia at least provides some funding to keep registration fees low.

Recreation sports programs require volunteers to run well. When there are lack of volunteers, that is where the disorganization comes into play because running youth sports is actually a lot of work! (Especially when dealing with parent complaints constantly)

In short.. Stop complaining and volunteer to make it better!

Whatever you do please do not ask the Recreation Department or the Town Administrators who provide and approve funding for the recreation accounting sheets.
They actual or live balance sheets are only to be viewed by the privileged and selected few. One quick look at those numbers will obviously show heavy cash flow towards the football programs as mentioned by S.Shrtl above. Please do not disturb the inner sanctuary of the inner circle in Ansonia’s Rec program…(Football 24/7).

I have to say where some of my family members live down south the fathers volunteer for the children and the expense is on the parents. They support each other and the biggest concern is the children. Volunteer and don't expect others to pick up a tab of coaching if you want actiivities. Here we expect others to take on the responsibility.

remember, half of the football buget is cheerleading and no matter where u live. football is just a more exspensive sport .dont b haters because football wins in ansonia. theres only LL team in this town this year ! is that REC,S fault? the people who r running the sports fault? maybe the city should give girls softball half of the LL money since there is twice as many girls than boys in the program !!!! i bet then they would forget all about football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a parent who is actively involved in several sports for my children I find this a bit shocking. You pay to play those costs go into uniforms, equipment in some cases, refs, etc. Registration fees barely cover costs. Coaches are only volunteers. They do not get paid, they dedicate their free time to the sports that their children play. Lack of organization some sports are more organized then others some times the directors do not know what is going on if no one complains. Did you bother to email the rec director or the director of the sport your child is playing? If that doesn't work contact your alderman or the mayor's office. If we were to pay coaches your cost to play would rise substantially. These sports are for recreation and to give the kids something to do. If you want to remain competitive start comparing your child to sign up at a specialty sport that competes your talking at least to start $500 for a season in most cases. Unfortunately, Ansonia does not have the fluid budget people believe they are paying into. If you feel this strongly please speak out in one of the board of rec meetings so the board can hear your complaints and the reasons. I can almost bet that the sport(s) your children play directors are working the hardest they can with the limited resources at their disposal.
