Description
A tree outside Livington Hills on Linden Street has been slated for removal. A no parking a Wednesday sign has been up for weeks for the removal. Please either remove the tree, or remove the sign! Ideally, both. The tree is very dead.

This tree has a notice that says it will be removed 10 days from January 09:)

It's almost 1 year from January 10. Is tree coming down?

it's definitely still there and definitely still dead. It had some leaves this summer, but large branches keep falling off.

Check out the photos I just posted. we have proof :-)
I know that the tree department is overwhelmed for whatever reason.
On State Street the London Plain trees have gotten a fungus that is killing them, so maybe that is keeping them busy across the city.

We live right next to this tree in the Livingston Hills condo building (saw Ben taking photo earlier today!) and this tree definitely needs to be removed. Branches fall off every time it rains and land on the sidewalk and cars. Please remove this tree before someone or something is hurt. Thanks!

I sent an email to the Parks Department to check on the status of the tree. They're swamped but a year is a little over the top! Will let you know what I hear.

thanks-- I'm kind of worried it's going to take even longer to get a new tree!

So I checked with the Parks Department and the notice on the tree is not when it is slated for removal. Parks is required when they're considering removing a tree to post on it and give residents ten days warning to object removal. If there is no objection, they then schedule removal. This tree was likely not dead when they posted, but in decline.
They said they would check the schedule and take care of it.
Regarding a new tree - it's a different organization that takes care of tree planting - the Urban Resources Initiative. Once this tree is out, you can email them at uri@yale.edu and they'll work with you to find a tree species you like.

I think it was dead and slated for removal when I initially posted this because there was a no parking sign warning that the tree was going to be removed on a specific date. nothing happened, and at least one car was seriously dented by this tree. better a car than a person...

I like this Justin Guy.
Excited to have you as a new Alder about town.

Right now a Public Works truck just pulled up to this tree, and there's a worker doing something here. They've put a sign on the sidewalk saying "tree work ahead"!They're chopping down the branches.... should we close this ticket? Looks like the tree will be down shortly.

That's great news! Thanks to the Parks Department for being so responsive. Let's leave the ticket open because now we enter phase two - stump removal.
If you guys are excited about getting a new tree here, you should reach out URI as I mentioned above and get on their list. Residents need to be on board because new trees need frequent watering in their first year of life and that task goes to neighbors.
