As hard as I try to keep the tree well in front of 334 Bowery clean and living, people continue to throw all sorts of garbage into it. It seems a loosing battle. And it is killing my plants. You can't begin to imagine the stuff I pick out of there.

Use chicken wire, to form a shape, that best fits the plant. Not much should pass though it, but the things that are good for it, light and rain and now hopefully no garage or worse.

Thanks for your suggestion but chicken wire sort of defeats the idea of having nice, lush growing green. Steve's Deli next door to us should put out a trash bin. I've asked them for 30 years to put one out there but they just don't.

People continue to throw garbage in the tree well. It seems to be a problem without a solution. Last weekend, perhaps a truck backed into the wooden barrier and demolished it. Monday morning, I wend out and fixed it once again. What a shame that common folk don't think about respect to the property of others.

Continued efforts in keeping the tree well clean has rendered a very impressive site of a bit of nature on the Bowery. While people still throw garbage and cigarettes into the plants, others from the block actually help by cleaning out the mess when they see it.
