Description

There are two lanes that turn onto Whitehurst Freeway from Canal Road. The right lane should flow without a problem (as it has no traffic lights or stop signs), but people always merge into the right lane from the left lane (that heads into Georgetown and to cross the Key Bridge) which causes the right lane to always be backed up. There should be early signage indicating that both lanes turn right onto Whitehurst Freeway so traffic is not impeded for those heading in that direction. If people would simply stay in the left lane instead of braking to be allowed into the right lane, thereby holding everyone up behind them in BOTH lanes, the traffic would flow much better from MacArthur Blvd and Foxhall down Canal Road. This sign should be placed right after the Georgetown University entrance, giving drivers in the left lane an early signal that they do not need to merge into the right lane to turn onto Whitehurt Freeway.
