Description
The trash folks came this morning and threw the lawn and leaf bags in with the regular trash. This is UNACCEPTABLE. Why are they not being picked up and composted by the city? This is a recurring issue and not isolated to this street or today

the town my parents live in have a spot for compost materials at their town dump. it is a really great spot to drop off compostable waste. the town turns it with a little forklift, i imagine once a day, so that it is a rich, evenly spread compost for anyone to use. they said their gardens have never been more productive, now that they spread it there.
we could definitely adopt this method for larger amounts of yard waste, perhaps with a pile at our recycling center? could our recycling trucks fit a spot for lawn bags? or could we schedule 2 or 3 pickups a year city-wide?

Hamden does that, but apparently not New Haven. The Hamden dump behind SCSU has great compost! Why do we buy expensive bags and go through great lengths to bag it separately if it all winds up in the back of the trash truck?

indeed, it is frustrating that it all ends up in the same place.
but, even more frustrating, it COSTS the city to get rid of garbage by the pound. you would think that they'd be more careful about what they need to pay to get rid of in this economy.
also, perhaps hamden would allow new haven to drop off lawn bags until a solution within the city is reached?
